Every time I visit Ryo’s in Crows Nest, there is a queue outside the bright orange double-doors. I suppose that is the way life is now in Sydney, if you want something authentic and delicious, you just have to join the queue. Today’s wait is a bit longer than usual as it’s their first day back after the holiday season. A quick glance up and down the line and you can see all the ramenous patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, restless and eager to get their fix.

Ryo's Ramen, Crows Nest

When the Spicy Ramen arrived, there was a minute of silence to give thanks to the Ramen Gods and then away we go! When Jase and I went to Japan last year, we ate so much ramen because we knew the quality of ramen is just not comparable in Sydney. Ryo’s is in my opinion, as close as it gets. The spicy broth is so thick that a layer of thin film starts to congeal on top of the soup after a few seconds. The 2 pieces of roast pork are generously thick and tender. The egg is halved, exposing a golden runny centre and the noodle is eggy and chewy in texture. Everything is simply perfection. I was going so hard on the ramen that I nearly forgot about the kara-age, but thank goodness I didn’t. The fried chicken is beautifully golden and crispy. Inside, it’s still juicy and tender. I slather on the Kewpie Mayo for extra creaminess but honestly, you don’t even need it.

We slurped and chewed in silent contentment until it was all gone. Thank you, Ryo’s, for another wondrous meal. You never let us down.
